Personal Care Worker
A Personal Care Worker provides service to individuals who need assistance caring for themselves because of old age, sickness, disability and/or other inflictions. Personal care includes assistance with the activities of daily living, housecleaning, laundry, meal preparation. A Personal Care Worker is responsible for ensuring that service is delivered in a caring and respectful manner, in accordance with relevant Quality Care Homes policies and industry standards.
Responsibilities and Activities
- Assist with the activities of daily living and personal care including bathing, ambulation, dressing, feeding, medication administration, transferring, and others
- Ensure the client’s safety and security by supervising the home environment
- Perform meal planning and preparation, routine housekeeping activities such as making/changing beds, dusting, vacuuming, washing floors, cleaning kitchen and bathroom, and laundry
- Provide companionship including social interactions, conversations, emotional reassurance, and encouragement of activities that stimulate the mind
- Provides respite care for families in accordance with care plans
- Ensure service is delivered in accordance with all relevant policies, procedures, and practices.
- Observe clients and their environments and reports behaviour, physical and/or cognitive changes and/or changes in living arrangements to Supervisor
- Complete and maintain records of daily activities, observations, and direct hours of service
- Make decisions and solve problems
- Provide companionship, friendship, and emotional support Required Certifications
- Criminal record check and security screening
- Senior Care Homes are under the vulnerable sector, so a vulnerable sector check is required
- A vulnerable sector check is a police information check plus a check to see if a person has a record suspension/pardon for sexual offenses
- A criminal record check is required every year
- Food Safe Certification
- First aid and CPR Certification
- Personal Care Worker Course Certification
- Medication Assistance Certification
- High school diploma, or equivalent
